Things are starting to slow down a bit in terms of what we are seeing in the MLB as the playoffs are beginning, but in just a few short weeks we will have the NHL and NBA starting up which will help fill the gap.
Today we have the AL wild card game on deck and those predictions are below.
MLB Predictions
New York Yankees @ Boston Red Sox
This is a hard game to pick for several reasons. Gerrit Cole will get the start for New York and he has been getting lit up recently and I don’t have too much confidence in him. Obviously we know how great he can be, but he has given up 15 runs in his last 3 starts to end the regular season and his shakiness makes me a little bit nervous. However, he has not given up more than 3 earned runs in his last 3 starts against Boston so I wouldn’t be surprised to see him rise to the occasion today. Nathan Eovaldi will start for Boston and I’m much more nervous about him today that I am with Gerrit Cole. Eovaldi has actually been really good against the Yankees this season, but in his last start against them he gave up 7 runs in just 2 innings of work. He also never gave up more than 2 runs in his previous starts against New York that came earlier in the season, so maybe his last start against them was just a fluke.
As a team the Yankees had much more success towards the end of the season and actually swept the Red Sox in Fenway park a little more than a week ago. In that series, New York gave up an average of 3 runs per game and scored an average of 6.33 runs per game in what was quite the display of dominance.
I agree with the system that the Yankees come out on top tonight and extend their postseason with a win over the Red Sox. The under is a little bit sketchy given some recent trends, but this is going to be a close game and I think it ends with a final score of 4-3.
System Predicts- Yankees ML, UNDER 8
