Yesterday’s Model Recap
Yesterday was a losing day for all of the models. The NBA and NHL models went back and forth on losses all night, and the MLB model had a winning record until it went 1-8 on the final nine predictions of the night. That is the second day in a row in which that happened.
3-star plays were 1-1 on the night. The Pirates blew a 7-2 lead and lost 8-7, but the Hawks beat the Celtics and covered the 13.5-point spread.
You can read more about yesterday’s performance in the PDF below.
Today our models only have predictions for the NBA and NHL. I don’t have much time on my hands to dive into those matchups, and the time constraint is also the reason why there are no MLB predictions because those games start in the early afternoon today.
Also, if you enjoy reading SportSense make sure to like this post and sign up for our free referral program by clicking the “Join SportSense Referral Program” button above! That will allow you to access some of our other newsletters, such as our Model Track and Prop Corner newsletters, as well as the SportSense subreddit, for free simply by referring your friends/family to SportSense.
Now, let’s get into today’s predictions
NBA Predictions
Today we have a loaded slate of NBA games, with a ton on the line for three teams. The Cavaliers, Bucks, and Grizzlies were all favorites to win their respective series, but all three of those teams find themselves down 3-1 and face elimination tonight.
According to our model Milwaukee has the highest chance of winning, followed by Cleveland and the Memphis. I agree with Milwaukee, but I would personally flip Cleveland and Memphis.
Today’s 3-star play is Grizzlies -4. I don’t have much time to dive into why, but Memphis has been terrific at home this season (35-6) and I think with their backs against the wall they can grab at least one more win this series.
Memphis is also the best defensive team in the NBA while at home, posting a 107.4 Defensive Rating in 41 home games during the regular season. I expect to see a performance similar to Game 2, a matchup the Grizzlies won by ten points after going down 0-1 in the series.
Model Predicts- Grizzlies -4, OVER 221.5
The Play- Grizzlies -4
NHL Predictions
Florida Panthers @ Boston Bruins
There hasn’t been a -1.5 prediction from the model the entire playoffs, but today we get one in the Panthers/Bruins matchup and I think it is a 3-star play.
Florida has no answers for Boston, who continues to prove why it is arguably the greatest hockey team of all time. Boston owns a 3-1 lead and a goal differential of +5 through the first four games of the series, beating Florida by at least two goals in all of its wins.
The Panthers are also scrambling in net at the moment. Alex Lyon started the first three games of the series before getting pulled for Sergei Bobrovsky in Game 4. Bobrovsky would go on to allow six goals in that game, so now it is unclear who the Panthers are going to toss in net tonight.
In my opinion it doesn’t really matter who starts for Florida because Boston has carved both of them up so far, and Boston has the far superior goalie with Linus Ullmark. Expect the Bruins to cover the puck line here and win the series at home.
Model Predicts- Bruins -1.5, OVER 6.5
The Play- Bruins -1.5
Conclusion
That is all for today’s write-up. It’s a rather short one and there is no MLB, but I think there are still some solid predictions across the NBA and NHL that we can take advantage of.
Tomorrow I’ll be back with more NBA and NHL predictions, and the MLB will be back in the newsletter as well.
Let’s have a good one!
